Network Set Up
A network is an essential part of a working computer environment and we find that people often find them a little confusing. We did too in the beginning.
A network, in computing, is a group of two or more devices that can communicate. In practice, a network is comprised of a number of different computer systems connected by physical and/or wireless connections. The scale can range from a single device sharing out basic peripherals to massive data centers located around the world, to the internet itself. Regardless of scope, all networks allow computers and/or individuals to share information and resources.
An example of a home network in operation would be the use of an ADSL, wireless, cellular or fibre router. The router gets its internet feed from one of the above-mentioned sources and then transmits a wireless signal around the house with all of your devices connected to it in order to have access to the internet. If you have a wireless printer, the printer would also be connected to it in order to enable wireless printing from any of your devices.
An office environment is more complex. There are a large number of computers connected to it that not only get internet access, but are also able to share information with each other.
An example of an ideal Apple network configuration would be the following:
- A fast internet line-This is arranged with your Internet Service Provider(ISP) and is dependent on the service available in your area.
- The use of Apple Airport devices to provide a strong and unified wireless signal to cover the entire premises.
- A wireless printer connected to the network. This means that you don’t have to plug a printer into your device.
- Back up drives connected to the Apple network in order to do wireless and automatic backups of your Macs. All you do is switch on your Mac and the rest is taken care of. Every day.
Apple Airport devices work beautifully and they are the only devices that we use in our own homes. They work as all Apple products do that are set up correctly. Seamlessly. We will assist you with advising, implementing and configuring a network in your home, office or school so that all of your Apple products talk to each other clearly.
